Clothes that last longer
Taking good care of your clothes will ensure that they last for many years. The washing instructions on the care label are a great starting point when it comes to taking good care of your clothes, but we want to give you some extra tips that go beyond what is stated on the care label. That is why we have put together some general suggestions for taking care of your base level clothes.
Denim
Denim is a robust and durable fabric made of cotton. Denim owes its special strength and durability to the special weave pattern, the so-called twill or diagonal weave, in which the threads run diagonally.
Cotton
Cotton is a natural fiber derived from the cotton plant. It is one of the most widely used textile fibers in the world because of its softness, breathability and versatility. Cotton is hypoallergenic and therefore suitable for people with sensitive skin.
Recycled Polyester
Recycled polyester is a synthetic fiber made from recycled plastic materials such as PET bottles and discarded polyester clothing. This helps reduce waste and the need for new raw materials. Recycled polyester offers the same strong and durable properties as traditional polyester. It is environmentally friendly, reduces plastic waste, and uses less water and energy during production. In addition, it is wrinkle-free, quick-drying, lightweight, and easy to maintain.
Viscose
Viscose, also known as rayon, is a textile fiber made from natural cellulose from wood pulp or cotton fibers. It is chemically processed into long, thin fibers, spun into yarn, and used for fabrics. Viscose has a silky sheen and is comfortable to the touch due to its breathable and moisture-absorbing properties. It is also easy to dye. Viscose can shrink when washed and can be prone to wrinkling, so careful washing according to the instructions is important for the longevity of the garment.
Polyester
Polyester is a synthetic textile fiber produced by polymerizing a chemical compound called a polymer. The material is known for its durability, wrinkle resistance, and colorfastness, making it popular in the clothing industry for a variety of applications.
Polyamide
Polyamide, also known as nylon, is a synthetic textile fiber produced by polymerization of a chemical compound. The material is known for its durability, elasticity, and resistance to tearing and abrasion, making it widely used in clothing and other textile applications.
EcoVero Viscose
EcoVero viscose is a more sustainable variant of viscose. It is produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed forests and undergoes a more environmentally friendly production process than traditional viscose, using less water and energy.
General washing tips
- Sorting : Sort laundry by color, fabric type and degree of soiling to prevent color bleeding and damage.
- Temperature : Use the appropriate water temperature based on the fabric type and the instructions on the care label (e.g. cold water for delicate fabrics, warm water for white clothes and heavily soiled items).
- Detergent : Use a mild detergent suitable for the fabric type to avoid damaging fibers and minimize color fading.
- Gentle cycle : Choose your washing machine's delicate cycle for sensitive items and fabrics.
- Inside Out : Turn garments inside out before washing to preserve color and reduce wear on the outside.
- Hand Wash : Consider hand washing delicate items such as lingerie, silk and wool to prevent damage.
Washing and drying tips
Drying tips
- Tumble dry at low temperature :
Dry garments on a low temperature in the dryer to prevent shrinkage and fiber damage. - Flat Dry : Lay delicate garments flat to dry, especially if they are prone to deformation.
- Remove immediately from dryer : Remove garments from dryer immediately after drying to prevent wrinkling and protect fabric.
- Dry flat : Hang or lay garments flat to dry to help maintain their shape, especially heavy or wet garments.
Additional care tips
- Storage: Store clothing in a cool, dry place with good air circulation to prevent mold and odors.
- Ironing: Iron garments at the correct temperature setting for the fabric type, using an ironing cloth if necessary to prevent shine or damage.
- Stain Removal: Treat stains immediately with suitable stain removers or methods recommended for the fabric type.
- Professional Cleaning: Consider professional dry cleaning for delicate fabrics and items that are dry clean only.
Denim
Washing tips :
- Temperature : Wash denim at a low temperature and use a delicate wash cycle, preferably at 30 degrees Celsius, to preserve the fabric and colour.
- Inside Out : Turn your denim garments inside out before washing. This will help protect the color and reduce wear on the outside.
- Washing frequency : Wash your denim as little as possible. Frequent washing can weaken the fabric and fade the color. Air your denim between washes to reduce odors.
Drying tips :
- Air Dry : Always air dry denim. Using a dryer can shrink the fabric and weaken the fibers.
- Avoid direct sunlight : Hang your denim in a shady spot to prevent color fading from direct sunlight.
Cotton
Washing tips :
- Temperature : Wash cotton clothes at a moderate temperature, usually between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius. For white cottons, you can use higher temperatures to remove stains.
- Color Separation : Sort cotton clothes by color to prevent color bleed. Wash white and light colors separately from dark colors.
- Mild detergents : Use a mild detergent to protect the fibers and preserve the color.
- Inside Out : Turn cotton clothes inside out to reduce wear on the outside.
Drying tips :
- Air Dry : Hang cotton garments to air dry. This helps prevent shrinkage.
- Avoid excessive heat : Tumble dry on a low setting to prevent shrinkage and damage to fibers.
- Ironing : Cotton can be ironed to remove wrinkles. Iron the garment inside out to avoid shiny spots.
Recycled Polyester
Washing tips :
- Temperature : Wash recycled polyester at a low to moderate temperature, usually between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, to protect the fibers.
- Mild detergent : Use a mild detergent to preserve the fibers and reduce the impact on the environment.
- Full Loads : Wash only full loads to reduce friction and extend material life.
Drying tips :
- Air Dry : Hang recycled polyester garments to air dry. This will help prevent shrinkage and heat damage.
- Do not over dry : Do not over dry recycled polyester as this may damage the fibres and shorten its lifespan.
- Ironing : If necessary, iron at a low temperature and preferably inside out to prevent shiny spots. However, ironing is usually not necessary due to the wrinkle resistance of polyester.
Viscose
Washing tips :
- Hand wash : Preferably wash viscose by hand or use the delicate wash program on your washing machine.
